Languages and Translations in Landbot

Landbot makes it easy to build chatbots that speak your users’ language. Whether you need a single bot in Spanish, a multilingual experience across different regions, or automatic translation of messages, Landbot gives you the flexibility to adapt your conversations 💬

🌍 Language Support in Landbot

Landbot supports any language, including those that use special characters (e.g. ñ, ü, ç) or non-Latin scripts (e.g. Arabic, Cyrillic). Even if some characters don’t display perfectly in the builder interface, they will appear correctly for your end-users in the live bot.

In rule-based chatbots, the text is inserted manually by you. For example, when you use a Send a Message block, the bot will simply display the text you write inside it - whether it’s English, Spanish, Japanese, or Arabic. This means you can freely design a bot in any language, without restrictions ✍️

Tip: If you need your bot to support Right-to-Left (RTL) languages, you can use this CSS workaround to adapt the bot interface. This allows you to display content correctly for languages like Arabic or Hebrew.

🔠 Options for Multilingual Bots

For rule-based bots, Landbot does not automatically translate your bot content. If you want to provide bot experience in more than one language, you will need to create a separate bot for each language version.

Once you have these bots translated, there are different ways to manage how users access them:

  • If your website is available in multiple languages, you can embed a separate Landbot for each language version of your page. Each option would link to the corresponding bot in that language.
  • This way, visitors automatically see the bot in the same language as the page they are on.

Another option for offering a multilingual experience is to redirect users to the correct language bot based on their input (DeepL integration).

  • This approach is especially useful if you want a single entry point for your bot but need to serve multiple languages seamlessly.
  • The advantage of this method is that you can dynamically send users to the right flow without making them manually choose a language.
  • For example, if a user types in Spanish, the bot can detect this and redirect them to the Spanish version of the flow, while English input would redirect to the English flow:
Note: With this approach, system messages ("Type here", " Choose an option") will be displayed in a single language (by default, in English). You can customize them, but they cannot automatically change based on the user’s language input.

🛠️ Customize System Messages

Custom System Messages are the default help and error texts displayed within your bot's interface. These include prompts like “Type your message here”. By default, these messages are set in English. However, you can customize them to match the language of your bot's content by going to the Settings > Custom System Messages section of your bot:

✨ Multilingual Support with AI Agents

AI Agents in Landbot can automatically detect and respond in the user’s language, making them ideal for multilingual experiences. Unlike rule-based bots, you don’t need to create separate flows for each language - the AI can understand user input and reply appropriately in the same language 🪄

How it works: The AI uses natural language understanding to identify the language of incoming messages and generates responses in the same language. This allows your bot to communicate seamlessly with users worldwide.

Supported Languages: AI Agents, powered by GPT-4o, can handle a wide range of languages, though performance may vary for less common languages. It’s recommended to test the most critical languages for your audience to ensure accuracy and tone.

Best Practices: Even though AI Agents adapt automatically, it’s a good idea to review responses periodically to ensure they align with your brand voice and provide clear, accurate information. For complex or highly structured flows, you can combine AI Agents with rule-based blocks for greater control.
