How to get started with the Landbot MCP

Desirée M Updated by Desirée M

Add the Landbot MCP to your AI assistant and sign in to Landbot, and the AI assistant can build, change and publish agents in your account. Setup takes a couple of minutes and installs nothing on your computer.

What do you need before you start?

● A Landbot account, on any plan. If you don't have one yet, you can create it from the sign-in screen that opens when you connect.

● An AI assistant that supports MCP servers: Claude (on the web, in the desktop app, in Cowork or in the mobile apps), Claude Code (the Code tab of the Claude desktop app), ChatGPT (on the web, on a computer) or the Codex app. Other tools that support remote MCP servers, such as Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot and Gemini CLI, work too: see How to add the Landbot MCP to other AI tools below.

Custom connectors are available on every Claude plan. On the Free plan you can add one custom connector. See Anthropic's guide to custom connectors.
If you use the Landbot Plugin, you don't need to add the Landbot MCP yourself: the Landbot Plugin connects to it for you. See How to get started with the Landbot Plugin.

How to add the Landbot MCP to Claude

1️⃣ Sign in to Claude and open Landbot's page in the Claude directory: claude.ai/directory/landbot.

2️⃣ Select Connect to Claude (top right).

3️⃣ Sign in to your Landbot account (with your password or with Google). Check that the Landbot page shows the right Landbot account, then select Allow. The Landbot MCP asks to read, create, edit and publish your agents, read, create and edit their AI agents, read your connected accounts and the spreadsheets they reach, ask for another account to be connected, and read and change how your web chats look and the texts they show, and run your own scripts on your web chat pages. Claude then says "Connected to Landbot."

On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds Landbot for the team first, in Organization settings › Connectors › Browse connectors › Add to your team. Each member then opens Customize › Connectors, selects Landbot and selects Connect.

4️⃣ Open a new chat and type: "List my Landbot agents." When Claude asks to use a Landbot tool, select Always allow. Claude replies with the agents in your Landbot account.

Once added, the Landbot connector is available in Claude on the web, in the Claude desktop app, in Cowork and in the Claude mobile apps. Adding a connector from the mobile app is still in beta, so add it from a computer.

You're all set! 🎉 Continue with How to build, test and publish an agent with the Landbot MCP or the Landbot Plugin.

How to add the Landbot MCP to ChatGPT

5️⃣ ChatGPT shows a Connect Landbot screen first: continue from it. Sign in to your Landbot account (with your password or with Google), check that the Landbot page shows the right account and select Allow.

6️⃣ Open a new chat and type: "List my Landbot agents." When ChatGPT asks to use Landbot, select Always allow. ChatGPT replies with the agents in your Landbot account.

Your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings decide whether you can add a custom MCP server. In Business workspaces, only admins and owners can create custom MCP apps. In Enterprise and Edu workspaces, an admin may need to give you permission first.

How to add the Landbot MCP to Claude Code

Claude Code here is the Code tab of the Claude desktop app (Mac or Windows). It uses the same Landbot connection as Claude, so you connect Landbot once at claude.ai.

1️⃣ Connect Landbot in Claude: see How to add the Landbot MCP to Claude above. If Landbot is already connected, skip this step.

2️⃣ Open the Claude desktop app, go to the Code tab and start a new session in any folder.

3️⃣ Type: "List my Landbot agents." When Claude asks to use a Landbot tool, select Yes, and don't ask again.

No Claude desktop app? Connect Landbot the same way and use a new chat on claude.ai.

How to add the Landbot MCP to Codex

1️⃣ In the Codex app, open Settings › Plugins, select Add (top right) and choose Add MCP server.

2️⃣ Name it Landbot, set Type to Streamable HTTP (not STDIO), paste https://mcp.landbot.io/mcp as the URL and select Save.

3️⃣ Still in Settings › Plugins, open the MCPs tab and select Authenticate next to Landbot.

4️⃣ Check that the Landbot page shows the right Landbot account and select Allow.

5️⃣ Start a new chat in Codex and type: "List my Landbot agents."

Create plugin, at the top of the Add menu, builds a new plugin. It doesn't connect Landbot.
The Landbot tools show only in chats you start after you select Allow.

How to add the Landbot MCP to other AI tools

Other AI tools that support remote MCP servers can connect to https://mcp.landbot.io/mcp. Landbot tests Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT and Codex end to end, not the tools below.

● Cursor: open Cursor Settings › MCP › Add new MCP server. Name it Landbot, choose the HTTP type and paste https://mcp.landbot.io/mcp.

● VS Code with GitHub Copilot: open the Command Palette, run MCP: Add Server, choose HTTP, paste https://mcp.landbot.io/mcp and name it landbot.

● Gemini CLI: run gemini mcp add --transport http landbot https://mcp.landbot.io/mcp, restart Gemini, then type /mcp auth landbot.

Then sign in: select the sign-in or Authenticate button next to Landbot in your tool, check that the Landbot page shows the right account and select Allow. If your tool shows no sign-in button, it appears the first time the tool uses Landbot.

For the connection details, every tool and the permissions the Landbot MCP asks for, see the Landbot MCP server guide.

What can the AI assistant do with the Landbot MCP?

With the Landbot MCP, the AI assistant can:

● See your agents and how each one is built.

● Create new agents and change existing ones, for Web, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and APIchat.

● Set up an AI Agent block that answers visitors' questions, and add text, links and documents to its Knowledge Base. Documents from your computer work in AI tools that can run commands there, such as Claude Code or Codex.

● Send an agent to its test link, and publish it after you approve.

● Connect your Google Sheets, SendGrid or Calendly account to an agent.

● Change how the web chat looks: switch an agent to the current web chat, apply Custom CSS, show or hide the Back button, and change the header title and avatar, the browser tab title, and the hint texts of the text box and the buttons.

● Upload an image, video, audio or document from your computer for the agent to show. This works from a tool that can run commands on your computer, such as Claude Code or Codex, for files up to 30 MB. Anyone with the file's link can open it.

Design changes the Landbot MCP makes to a published agent go to the agent's draft. Visitors see them after you publish the agent from the Landbot builder.

How to connect Google Sheets, SendGrid or Calendly

The Landbot MCP connects Google Sheets, SendGrid and Calendly to your agent through a secure link. You approve access in your browser, so you never share a password in the chat.

1️⃣ Ask for what you need, for example: "Save each lead to a Google Sheet."

2️⃣ If no matching account is connected to Landbot yet, the AI assistant sends you a link.

3️⃣ Open the link in a browser where you're signed in to Landbot. Approve access at Google or Calendly, or enter your SendGrid sender and API key on that page.

4️⃣ Go back to the chat and say you're done. The AI assistant checks the connection and finishes the agent.

The link works once and expires after 15 minutes. If it expires, ask for a new one.
To connect an account, your Landbot user needs permission to edit integrations.
If your Google Sheet isn't listed, paste the sheet's link into the chat.
The Landbot Plugin connects Google Sheets, SendGrid and Calendly the same way.
