Default Output Explained

Rafaela Basso Updated by Rafaela Basso

When using the Buttons block, did you ever wonder what was the "Default" output and how to use it? In this article, we will explain everything about it!

The Default button is part of every Buttons block. It is an element that allows the flow to move on to the next block of the conversation in certain cases:

The Buttons block has only one output

If the Buttons block has only one output, you can either connect the Button or the Default to the next block, and you will have the same result. Do not connect both the button and the output.

Tip: Do not connect the Default if the Buttons block has only one button, and you have already directed it to an output.

The Buttons block has answers not connected to any output

If you have a Buttons block with many buttons that will lead to the same output, there is no need to connect them all you can just use the Default instead πŸ˜‰

If all buttons have the same output

In case you have many buttons in the block, and it does not matter which one the user chooses, you can use the Default.

Also, you should connect only the Default output, leaving all the buttons without connection, if you have a Buttons block set with Multiple Choice options.

For more information about how to set up the Multiple Choice questions, please check this article.

Using Bricks

It is also possible to use the Default option with Bricks πŸ‘

Don't use the Default when you have already chosen an output

If you have already used an output, the Default button should remain without any connection.

So there is no need to connect the Default button if all buttons have outputs already defined:
