Key Insights for Migrating to WhatsApp Business API Cloud

Why Migrate to our BSP?

You might be wondering why you need to migrate your number. Let us explain!

Meta is phasing out its local WhatsApp Business API service in favor of a new cloud-based API, highlighting their focus on innovation and efficiency, and we, at Landbot, are embracing this change. The Cloud API brings numerous advantages, which we will explore in this article. At Landbot, we strive to offer the best to our clients; that's why we have become a BSP (Business Solution Provider) and deliver top-tier service in the cloud.

On-premise API vs Cloud API

Meta offers two types of WhatsApp Business API services: on-premise API and Cloud API. The difference lies in how and where the data is stored. With the On-premise API, the data is stored on your provider's servers, whether that’s 360Dialog or another third-party provider. On the other hand, with the Cloud API—the service we offer through as BSP ourselves—Meta stores the data on their cloud.

So far at Landbot, we’ve maintained both services: our in-house WhatsApp integration, based on the Cloud API, and integrations through third-party providers like 360Dialog that utilize the On-premise API. We chose this approach when we became a BSP because we understand that migration can be daunting and time-consuming. And that was despite the extra costs—third-party providers charge us for the service and storage.

Meta Cloud API Service Benefits

  • Scalable: the Cloud API delivers faster performance, four times the level of the On-premise API.
  • More reliable: the Cloud API consistently offers 99.9% uptime and less than five seconds of P99 latency. Check the Meta page for WhatsApp Business API status for more information about uptime and latency states.
  • Secure and certified: the Cloud API has certifications and security features for businesses, including GDPR and LGPD compliance, as well as SOC2 and SOC3 certifications. Additionally, we are currently working towards ISO 27001 certification. Visit the Meta Compliance Center for the Cloud API and check their security and encryption reports.
  • Exclusive Cloud API features: the Cloud API offers more features than the On-premise API, as it includes the latest released features and upcoming features available exclusively for the Cloud API.
Additional benefits of migrating to Landbot BSP:
  • Better Service: Access Landbot’s newest features, which are exclusively available for Cloud customers. Add up to 10 Quick Reply Buttons in Message Templates, Start a conversation directly from Inbox and enjoy exciting upcoming functionalities!

What has changed, then?

As explained, Meta has announced that they will soon discontinue WhatsApp Business APIs on the On-premise API. This includes WhatsApp numbers connected to Landbot using 360Dialog as a provider or other third-party providers that run on the On-premise API.

This aligns with the reality that we can no longer sustain the additional costs imposed by this service.

How will this affect your numbers connected to third-party providers such as 360dialog in Landbot?

This migration is mandatory since Meta is going to discontinue the service. At Landbot, we have been working to make this transition as smooth as possible for our customers. The migration is accessible from the platform, following a few simple steps. You can access from this link. By carefully following the instructions, you can migrate your number quickly and easily.

Additionally, we have dedicated documentation and a video tutorial available to make this transition as smooth as possible. Of course, if you need assistance with the process, you can always contact our Support team at help@landbot.io.

We strongly encourage you to complete your number migration by September 30th. Starting October 1st, support for issues related to the On-Premise API will no longer be available. Additionally, a fee of 100€/month may be applied to your invoice for each month your number continues to be hosted by a third-party provider. This fee is necessary to cover the additional costs incurred due to third-party hosting.

From December 2024, On-premise API numbers connected to Landbot will no longer be functional. As a result, any bots and automations integrated with your WhatsApp number will stop working from that date.
