How to disable a bot

Do you need to disable a bot for a certain period? No problem! In this article we will detail how you can disable a bot, and the expected behaviour for each channel 😉

For all Channels

If have the Autoassign feature turned on under Preferences>Assignation then chats will be assigned to an agent if a user tries to interact with Disabled bot.

If this is turned off, the chat will not be assigned to an agent.

For Landbot (Web)

To disable a Web bot you have to follow these steps:

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Click on General
  3. Scroll down and click on Disable bot

This is how a disable bot will appear in your Landbot dashboard:

Important

If you disable the bot while a user is interacting with it, the bot will stop sending messages immediately.

Expected behaviour for Embedded Web Bots

A disabled bot will still appear on the website where it is embedded, but the bot will not trigger past the first message.

You will need to remove the script from the Web page to be completely disabled. Chats of users attempting to interact with the disabled bot will still be counted.

For Facebook Messenger

To disable a Facebook Messenger bot you have to follow these steps:

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Click on General
  3. Scroll down and click on Disable bot

Expected behaviour for Messenger Bots

The user will be able to send a message through the Facebook page and you will receive the notification of the message but the bot will not start or reply.

Important

If there's a user talking with a bot through Messenger bot and you disable the bot while the interaction is happening, the bot will stop sending messages.

For WhatsApp

To disable a WhatsApp bot you have to follow these steps:

  1. Click on Settings
  2. Click on General
  3. Scroll down and click on Disable bot

This is how the bot will appear on your Landbot dashboard:

Expected behaviour for WhatsApp Bots

The user will be able to send a message through WhatsApp but the bot will not start or reply.

Important

If there's a user talking with a bot through WhatsApp and you disable the bot while the interaction is happening, the bot will stop sending messages.

If you have a chat widget embedded in your website, disabling the bot will stop it from triggering, but it won't make the chat widget disappear. You need to remove the snippet as in the embedded Web Bot case described above.
