Ask for a number block

The Ask for a number block asks visitors for a number and saves it in a Field, so you can count, compare or quote it later in the flow. Visitors can only type a number, and you decide whether the block takes whole numbers or decimals, which range it accepts and which symbol shows next to the box.

The Ask for a number panel has the question, the optional Settings for format, range and prefix, and the Field the answer is saved in.

How to add an Ask for a number block

Add an Ask for a number block from the output of the block that comes before it:

1️⃣ Drag from the block's output (the green arrow) to an empty spot on the canvas, or click the output.

2️⃣ Type Ask for a number in Search by name.

3️⃣ Select Ask for a number.

Then write the question in Question text and pick or create a Field in Save user answer in the field. A Field created here holds numbers, so a Conditions block can compare it as a number later. Learn more in Fields.

How to choose the format

Pick the Format that matches what you're asking for. It's in the block's Settings, which also hold the range and the prefix:

● Whole numbers: for things you count, like people or tickets. A decimal answer is accepted but only its whole part is saved: 2.5 is saved as 2.

● Decimals: for amounts, like prices. The number is saved without trailing zeros: 24.50 is saved as 24.5.

● Auto (the default): takes either.

How to limit the range

Set Min. value and Max. value when only some numbers make sense. Left empty, they show 0 and 99999. An answer outside the range isn't sent: the box turns red and tells the visitor the limit, so they can fix it.

In this example, a climbing gym agent, Boulder Barn, asks how many climbers are coming and takes groups of 1 to 8, the most a session can hold:

● Outside the range, 12: "Maximum value is 8". The answer isn't sent.

● Inside the range, 4: the answer is sent and saved in @climbers.

How to add a prefix

Add a prefix when the number has a unit, so visitors know what they're typing: a currency such as € or $, or %. The prefix shows in a box next to the input, and it isn't saved with the number.

In this example, the Boulder Barn agent asks for the budget per climber in Decimals with the prefix €, then repeats both answers:

● Visitor's answers: 4 climbers and 24.50 per climber.

● Agent's reply: "Great! We'll email you session options for 4 climbers at around €24.5 each. See you on the wall! 🧗"

Because the prefix isn't saved, the reply types its own € before @budget.

FAQs

Can visitors type letters in an Ask for a number block?

No. Letters don't appear in the box, so visitors can only type a number. For answers with words, use the Ask a question block.

Why was 2.5 saved as 2?

Because Format is Whole numbers, which keeps only the whole part of the answer. Set Format to Decimals or Auto to keep decimals.

How do I show a currency in a message?

Type the symbol in the message before the Field, as in "€@budget". The prefix shows only next to the answer box and isn't saved with the number.
